ABOUT
Brian Ebel
Brian Ebel had an accomplished 28-year career in Major League Baseball (MLB). As only the fourth Head Athletic Trainer in Baltimore Orioles history since the club’s 1954 move to Baltimore, he built a reputation for operational excellence, clinical rigor, and collaborative leadership. Ebel led an interdisciplinary performance and medical team that drove some of MLB’s lowest injury rates and delivered rehabilitation programs that consistently exceeded league outcomes data. He also developed comprehensive staff training across emergency medicine, physical medicine, and mental health; applied advanced injury analytics to monitor workload and trend risks that informed player-acquisition decisions; and directed adherence to MLB medical protocols and medical-records compliance.
His leadership philosophy emphasizes growth and advancement; many athletic trainers, physicians, and providers he has mentored have been promoted internally or recruited by other leading organizations. A league-level leader, Ebel chaired Major League Baseball’s Electronic Medical Records Committee and served on MLB’s Medical Advisory and Concussion Committees. He served on the Gatorade Baseball Advisory Board, a group of experts who guided Gatorade on sports science, hydration, and nutrition in Major League Baseball. Ebel was selected as Athletic Trainer for the American League 2007 and 2024 All-Star Games. In addition, he was also selected as an Athletic Trainer for the MLB All-Stars Tour of Taiwan in 2011. In 2026, Ebel will be part of the medical coverage for team Netherlands in the World Baseball Classic (WBC).
Ebel received the prestigious Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award from the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) in 2022. That same year, he was inducted into the Maryland Athletic Trainers’ Association Hall of Fame. His career has been defined not only by excellence on the field but also by his ongoing contributions to the profession, including his work on Electronic Medical Records, for which he was honored with the PBATS President’s Distinguished Service Award in 2012. In 2011 and 2023, was honored with the Major League Athletic Training Staff of the Year award, a peer-voted award recognizing training staff excellence and how player health and performance are supported.
In addition to his role as Principal at Foxcreek Advisors, a healthcare consulting company, Ebel holds a faculty appointment as an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where he has contributed to the education and development of future healthcare professionals since 2021. Ebel is a dedicated community advocate. He proudly served on the board of Unified Community Connections (formerly the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation), which supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Maryland.
Ebel was awarded a U.S. Patent in 2012 for an orthopedic device designed to aid in the treatment of plantar fasciitis and heel spurs during weight-bearing activities. Always an innovator, he consistently brings a strategic mindset and fresh perspective to every opportunity he pursues.
Ebel’s career and achievements reflect his deep commitment to excellence in sports medicine and athletic training. He combines clinical expertise with strategic consulting, organizational development, and mentorship. By leveraging data analytics and insights, he helps organizations make informed, evidence-based decisions that drive meaningful impact.
